Strengthening paediatric diagnostic capacity through lung ultrasound training
From 1 to 8 November, researchers and clinicians from the eHealth4ChildTB Project (Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Zambia and France) completed an intensive training programme in paediatric lung ultrasound (POCUS) at Stellenbosch University (South Africa), led by the IMCI-PLUS team.
This two-part training combined:
- ✔️ A theoretical course on 1 November
- ✔️ Hands-on practical sessions in hospital settings from 2 to 8 November
POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) is a rapid ultrasound technique that allows clinicians to identify key pulmonary abnormalities directly at the bedside. In the scope of eHealth4ChildTB, the focus is on lung ultrasound, a promising tool to help strengthen diagnostic capacity for paediatric tuberculosis and pneumonia.
This training followed a train-the-trainer model: 👉 Participants will now support the rollout of POCUS training and implementation in Mozambique and Côte d’Ivoire, contributing to improved early detection and management of childhood respiratory diseases across participating countries.
